Late June Fishing report

Fishing Report: Wrapping up King Fishing and awaiting the Sockeye Salmon Run!

Date: 07/02/2023
Hey there, everyone! It has been about 10 days since the last report from us on the water. We wrapped up June with some mixed success for Kings on the Lower Naknek River. We are expecting the sockeye salmon any day now, we had an early push of about 30K sockeye in the last week of June, but it tapered down to 10-12k per day since then.

King Fishing the last week of June

This season, King Fishing on the Naknek has been fairly typical. We haven’t heard of seen anyone catching large Kings, and hooking up with 1-2 fish per day is normal.

We recommend the use of spinners and Kwikfish as usual. These lures have proven effective in enticing a few early Jack Kings. It is worth spending some time back-trolling kwikfish or pulling spinners with the current as well.

Sockeye Fishing: In late June

Currently, the Sockeye fishing I would consider slow. Despite the challenges, anticipation continues to build… As we move closer to the beginning of July, we can expect the sockeye salmon activity to pick up thru most of July and begin to taper off after the 20th. Then, we will likely switch back to trolling for the last few big Kings before switching over to Silver Salmon in August!

Our guests have been averaging 2-4 Sockeye salmon on our full-day fishing trips. Hopefully, we will be hitting our limits by lunch time over the next few days!

See you next time!
